Who We Are

Welcome to St. George's Church! We love visitors. We hope you will feel at home. Our 'Main Thing' is stated under the title of every page on this website: "Transforming broken lives into world changing disciples." Get as excited about living for God as we do! We were formed back in 1885 and currently have about 250 active members. We are a vibrant and eclectic downtown church, located in the heart of Ottawa's Centretown district. We are drawn from all parts of the National Capital Region, old and young.

Vision

At St. George’s, we want the Lord to keep transforming us and bring wholeness into our lives as individuals, families, and church community. We want to listen to Him and obey His will – in our worship, our Christian growth, in our care for each other, and in serving others and sharing the good news of Jesus.

Our vision is to be a loving church that works and grows together – clergy and people – each of us using the gifts the Holy Spirit gives us. We want to build everything we do on prayer so that the Lord will direct us in His work. We want our worship to come from the heart, bringing joy and hope in Jesus. We want that joy and hope to spill out into the lives of other people, in our home neighborhoods, in downtown Ottawa, and in the world. We want everything we use in our work – our building, our resources, our programs – to be the most useful it can be to live up to our vision.

We want to be an example of what can happen when a church follows Jesus with its whole heart.

Prayer

Lord, we pray for the willingness to offer our broken lives to you each day. Transform us, we pray, into steadfast disciples, and equip us to reach out to others with the good news of life and hope in you.

Purpose Areas

CARING FOR ONE ANOTHER: To love one another as defined in the Holy Scriptures. To express the love that we receive from God, we will love each other by: spending time together, bearing one another’s burdens, encouraging one another, and affirming the work of God in us.

CHRIST-LIKE SERVICE: In order to reach out and serve the needs of the wider community, we must identify the needs and use our resources to respond to those needs in prayerful, Christ-like service.

EVANGELISM/PROCLAMATION: To be witnesses of God’s love through personal and corporate example and action in proclaiming the good news in all places.

LEARNING and GROWING in the BODY BY GOD’S GRACE: To learn God’s will through Scripture and prayer in order to grow in spiritual maturity to do God’s will in the world.

WORSHIP: We gather to worship through God’s Word, praise and prayer.

Ministers

The Reverend David S. Crawley, Rector, was ordained as priest at Christ Church Cathedral, Ottawa in 1977. Prior to his ordination, David worked as a staff member for IVCF in Peterborough, Ontario. He studied theology at the University of Nottingham, and St. John's Theological College, UK, where he received the equivalent of a Master's of Divinity degree. David served in four parishes in Eastern Ontario, before coming to St. George's in June of 1993. He enjoys heading up a team of lay and ordained leaders committed to serving the downtown Ottawa area in the name of Christ.

David married Anne in 1970 and together they have 3 married daughters and 4 grandchildren: three bouncing boys & 1 gorgeous girl. Anne is an RN working in the Ottawa region, and is active in women's ministry and worship at St. George's. Anne and David share a joint calling to the healing ministry and have given leadership together and individually in the equipping of the body in this vital area of Christian ministry.

David has served on a number of diocesan committees and has a real "ecumenical" heart for unity in the body of Jesus Christ around the unchanging truths of the Gospel. He was instrumental in getting Alpha off the ground at St. George's and overseeing our process to help make St. George's become more purposeful in our five major defined purpose areas. This has been a '"labour of love'' and is now bearing fruit throughout the entire parish. David enjoys music, reading and outdoor sports; all of which help to bring balance to his life and ministry. He continues to be passionate about the ways in which the Gospel of Jesus Christ enables transformation at the individual, congregational and community levels.
